Part 2 - Intermediate to Advanced Diabetes Management 

This is part 2, we advise all delegates attend part 1 before attending this part. Please visit Foundation Diabetes to register. 

For clinicians wanting to enhance their confidence in oral and injectable therapies. This is a face to face. All 3 days must be attended in order to recieve a certificate of attendance.

Learning Objectives

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the range of oral medications used for glucose control and their mechanisms of action.

  • Identify key contraindications and common side effects associated with oral diabetes medications.

  • Interpret and apply relevant sections of the NICE Guidelines for Type 2 diabetes management.

  • Use case studies to integrate clinical guidance into practical decision-making.

  • Develop confidence in making informed treatment decisions based on individual patient needs.

  • Describe the next steps in treatment escalation for patients not adequately controlled on oral therapy.

  • Compare different injectable therapies, including GLP-1 receptor agonists and various insulin types.

  • Understand the profiles, timing, and administration techniques of different insulin preparations.

  • Demonstrate how to initiate insulin therapy safely and effectively.

  • Conduct informed risk–benefit discussions with patients regarding injectable treatment options.

  • Apply knowledge from across the course in case-based practical sessions, enhancing clinical decision-making skills.
