Part 1 : Foundation in Diabetes Care

This is part 1, depending on your job role you will be eligible to register for part 2. We recommend you attend part 1 before attending part 2.

This course is face to face. All 3 days must be attended in order to receive a certificate of completion.

Recommended for everyone wishing to build a strong foundation. These sessions are designed to equip you with the knowledge and skills to manage patients newly diagnosed with diabetes or those requiring a review. Topics covered include diagnosis, lifestyle advice, the 9 care processes, oral medications and an introduction to injectable therapies.

Day 1 & 2-

  • Diagnosing Diabetes - who, when and how?

  • Understanding results: HbA1c, Cholesterol, ACR, EGFR

  • Introduction to the 9 Care Processes, including:

    • Foot Checks

    • Physical Measurements: BP, Waist, Weight and Height

    • Eye Screening

    • ACR - why it matters

    • Smoking Cessation

Day 3 -

  • Diet and Lifestyle in detail - how education can make a difference

  • The Diabetes Consultation - tackling CKD, Cholesterol and Hypertension

  • Addressing health inequalities in Diabetes Care

  • RULES : Hypoglycaemia, Driving and Sick Day Guidance
