Update on COPD Management for Primary Care
About the event
This study day gives you a foundation knowledge in COPD and is suitable for beginners and those needing an update. This is NOT the equivalent to undertaking a course in managing patients with COPD in your practice. You will revise the respiratory system and gain a better understanding of how the condition of COPD impacts on this and on the body more systemically. You will learn about the impacts of COPD as an inflammatory condition on other comorbid conditions.
Aims of the session:
Knowing how we assess for a correct diagnosis
Gaining an overview of diagnosis and treatment guidelines including NICE and GOLD
Understanding what a good COPD review looks like - Comorbid Condition Awareness
Smoking depression scoring, inhaler technique and nutrition
Showing personalised action plans (PAPs)
Treatment - Stepping up and Stepping down
Understanding responsible prescribing
Emergency Care - are rescue packs appropriate?
End of Life Planning
Learning Outcomes:
Understand and apply the diagnostic criteria for COPD diagnosis
Demonstrate and ability to assess individual clinical competence in relation to Asthma management.
Recognise the diagnostic criteria in national guidelines and understand its application clinically
Apply best practice guidelines in the assessment and management of COPD patients with General Practice
Evaluate delivery of safe and effective care of COPD patients within General Practice
Understand the parameters of clinical competency and the role of the multidiciplinary team.
Demonstrate awareness of the best management and review of COPD patients within Primary Care
