The aim of this session is to teach you the role of a Chaperone in care and clinical settings, including the current guidance along with an understanding of why a chaperone might be needed. The training involves pre-reading and post-reading materials and a short online assessment.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Define the term 'Chaperone'

  • Describe the role of a Chaperone and how you will undertake this role

  • Recognise the need for a Chaperone in the practice setting

  • Discuss what is meant by an intimate examination

  • Explain the rights of the patient

  • State how you will communicate this service to patients if required

  • Recognise the safeguarding issues around being a Chaperone and how to escalate concerns

  • Recognise and preserve the dignity, respect and privacy of the patient
