In the heart of Regent's Park, the General Practice Nurses (GPN) Celebration Event brought together 333 Primary Care nurses from across London for a day of recognition, learning, and camaraderie. Hosted at Regent's University London, the event was a vibrant mix of educational sessions, networking opportunities, and tributes to the vital role of general practice nurses.

A Warm Welcome and Inspirational Start

The day began with a warm welcome from Debbie Brown and Kenny Gibson, setting a positive tone for the event. The opening session featured an inspiring keynote from the Chief Nursing Officer of London, Jane Clegg highlighting the critical contributions of general practice nurses in the healthcare system.

Insightful Sessions and Expert Speakers

Throughout the day, attendees participated in various sessions led by renowned experts in the field. Julie Roye from North East London opened the first session, followed by Dr. Crystal Oldman and Angie Hack discussing leadership and support for GPN education and practice. The sessions covered a range of topics, from tackling youth violence with a public health approach to understanding chronic insomnia with Dr. Hugh Selsick.

One of the standout moments was the session on “Cancer: What’s Your Role” led by Sandra Dyer, Bonnie Green, and Stewart Block, which emphasised the pivotal role of primary care nurses in cancer care and patient support.

Memorable Moments and Special Recognitions

A particularly memorable moment was Jane Clegg's retirement announcement, which was met with a heartfelt standing ovation. Additionally, the event celebrated the achievements of the Equity Now Nurses, who received their certificates in a special awards segment.

Engaging Activities and Networking

The event also featured interactive activities and plenty of networking opportunities. Attendees mingled over coffee, shared experiences during lunch, and forged new connections that will undoubtedly contribute to their professional growth.

Feedback and Future Plans

The feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive. One attendee commented, " So far all went well, speakers were great. I hope to see more mental health topics next time.." Another shared, "Really lovely day. Really enjoyed it."

We are already in the process of securing the date for next year’s event, aiming to build on this year's success and address the feedback provided.
