Lead Nurse

About the Organisation:

Penrose Health is on a mission to deliver outstanding healthcare to every patient we serve.
We care for 75,000+ people across 9 sites in South East London, supported by a team of 200+ clinicians and staff. Our model is built on permanent, diverse teams, strong governance, and a clear focus on continuity, quality, and access.
We work closely with NHS partners to deliver a full range of services — from routine checks to complex, long-term care — backed by robust systems and a culture of continuous improvement.
We’re proud to hold a CQC “Good” rating and consistently receive strong feedback from patients.

Brief Synopsis of the Role:

We’re looking for an experienced Lead Practice Nurse to provide clinical leadership across our nursing service. Someone ready to shape how nursing care is delivered, while still doing the hands-on clinical work that drew them into nursing in the first place.

This is a genuinely blended role. You’ll continue to work as a Practice Nurse, delivering direct patient care for the majority of your working week, while also leading and supporting our Practice Nurses, Healthcare Assistants and Phlebotomists – mentoring, coaching and developing the team around you. You’ll oversee clinical governance and quality across the nursing function, working closely with our Central Management Team to make sure the service runs safely, efficiently, and to a consistently high standard for every patient we see.

We know that stepping into leadership often means stepping away from the patient care you love, that’s not the case here. Protected time is built into your week specifically for leadership responsibilities, so you’re never trying to squeeze it in around a full clinical caseload. But this isn’t a desk-bound management role either: you’ll be a visible, trusted presence on the floor, someone your team can turn to, learn from, and lean on when it matters.

If you’re an Experienced Practice Nurse who enjoys leadership without giving up the clinical work, and you want a genuine say in how nursing is delivered across a growing, multi-site organisation – we’d love to hear from you.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Leading and line-managing Practice Nurses, Healthcare Assistants and Phlebotomists — including inductions, mentoring, supervision and performance reviews
  • Setting clear priorities, giving timely feedback and coaching colleagues to remove barriers to performance
  • Overseeing clinical governance, safety and quality — including audits, significant events, complaints and incident learning
  • Leading on safeguarding, infection prevention, medicines management and clinical risk within the nursing team
  • Working with the Central Management Team on rotas, cover, recruitment and retention
  • Ensuring key clinical programmes run safely and on target — long-term condition reviews, cervical screening, immunisations, wound care and NHS Health Checks
  • Monitoring performance against QOF, contractual and internal targets, and driving improvement plans where needed
  • Continuing to deliver hands-on Practice Nurse duties across the working week, including long-term condition management, screening, immunisations and patient education

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Registered Nurse with current NMC registration and a recognised General Practice/Primary Care Nursing qualification (or equivalent experience)
  • Have substantial recent experience as a Practice Nurse, including long-term condition management, cervical screening, immunisation and wound care.
  • Have experience leading, supervising or developing clinical colleagues – including handling performance concerns fairly and directly

Desirable Job Requirements:

Have experience with clinical audit or quality improvement (independent prescribing, leadership qualifications or multi-site nursing leadership experience all a bonus, but not essential)

Lead GP

About the Organisation:
Penrose Health was established by our Managing and Clinical Partners, Sunil and Sarah, who recognised the increasing pressures facing general practice and the need for a more sustainable way of delivering high-quality NHS care.

Both remain closely involved in the clinical leadership and direction of the organisation.

The group model was created to support practices to work together rather than operate in isolation, allowing shared learning, stronger clinical leadership, and professional operational support.

By bringing practices together, Penrose is able to invest in systems, people, and development in a way that would be difficult for individual practices to achieve alone.

This approach is designed to protect time for patient care, support teams to do their jobs well, and create a working environment that is resilient, supportive, and focused on long-term improvement.

Penrose remains clinically led, with decisions rooted in real experience of frontline primary care.

Brief Synopsis of the Role:
Penrose Health is a GP group delivering primary care across South East London. We operate with strong clinical leadership and professional operational support to allow clinicians to focus on patient care and quality.

We are recruiting Lead GPs to combine hands-on clinical practice with responsibility for leading the GP team and supporting high-quality, consistent care at practice level.

This role offers more scope and influence than a traditional salaried GP post, without the financial or operational risk of partnership.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Lead GPs continue to work clinically while also acting as the senior clinical leader on site.

You will:
Lead and line manage the GP team at your allocated practice
Support newly qualified and transitioning GPs
Provide clinical leadership and escalation support to all clinicians on site
Act as the clinical safeguarding lead on site
Be a senior clinical presence for in-person patient complaints
Work alongside AHP Leads, who retain line management responsibility for their teams

A key part of the role is improving how clinical decisions affect demand and workload.

You will lead the team to:
Reduce unnecessary GP-booked follow-ups
Improve first-time resolution where clinically appropriate
Reduce avoidable cancelled clinics caused by absence or poor planning
Improve consistency in clinical decision-making and safety-netting

You are not responsible for appointment scheduling or operational rostering.
You are responsible for clinical standards, behaviours, and reliability.

How we work
Penrose Health is not a traditional GP partnership.
Partners lead clinically across the group
A Central Management Team runs the operations
Clinicians are supported by HR, Clinical Admin, Welcome Teams, and cross-group AHP Leads
This structure allows Lead GPs to focus on patients, team leadership, safeguarding, and quality improvement, supported by experienced operational colleagues.

Minimum Job Requirements:
This role is suited to GPs who:
Are experienced and interested in clinical leadership
Enjoy supporting and developing colleagues
Care about consistency, standards, and quality
Want to reduce avoidable workload through better decision-making
Are looking for influence and development without partnership risk
Session commitment
Minimum 6 sessions per week which will include 2 protected leadership sessions
We’re open to any number of sessions from 6-9 per week
Remaining sessions are clinical

Desirable Job Requirements:
Experience managing or supervising other GPs
Experience supporting newly qualified or early-career GPs
Formal leadership or management training
