Entry Requirements
To enrol in an apprenticeship, you must be aged 16 or older and not in full-time education. GCSE Maths and English at grade 4–9 (A–C) or a Level 2 Functional Skills equivalent is required. For non-clinical roles, these can often be completed during the apprenticeship. For clinical roles, they must be completed before starting. International qualifications can be converted through the ENIC process.
Levy Funding Paragraph
Apprenticeships are fully funded via the government’s Apprenticeship Levy. Larger NHS trusts pay into the levy, and smaller organisations like GP practices or PCNs can receive a portion of that funding via a transfer. The cost of training varies by apprenticeship, ranging from £1,500 to £27,000, all covered by the levy.
Digital Apprenticeship Service (DAS)
The Digital Apprenticeship Service (DAS) account allows the employer to receive the levy funding from the ‘gifting’ organisation (secondary care), add their apprentice(s) name(s) and link the information with the agreed training provider. This ensures that the training provider receives payments on a monthly basis to cover 100% of the costs of the course (apprenticeship).
How to Access Levy Funding
1.
Create an account on the Digital Apprenticeship Service (DAS).
2.
Complete a Levy Transfer Application with SELWDH guidance.
3.
Add the apprentice’s details to your DAS account.
4.
Choose a training provider and confirm start dates.
5.
Ensure the transferring trust approves the application.
6.
Once approved, levy payments begin, and the apprentice starts learning.
