We are committed to supporting the development of both clinical and non-clinical staff across Lambeth. As part of this commitment, we deliver Protected Learning Time (PLT) sessions eight times a year—four at an all-practice level and four at a PCN/INT level. Details of upcoming PLT dates and resources from previous PLT events are available in the Upcoming PLTs section below.
Protected Learning Time (PLT) is a key component of workforce development across Lambeth primary care and supports the delivery of high-quality, safe and sustainable services. PLT is commissioned to enable learning, collaboration and service improvement at Primary Care Network (PCN), Integrated Neighbourhood Team (INT), and borough (All-Practice) level, in line with Integrated Care Board (ICB) priorities.
Transition to Integrated Neighbourhood Working
As part of the move towards more integrated ways of working across neighbourhood teams, from June 2026 practices will begin transitioning from PCN-based Protected Learning Time (PLT) to PLTs across an Integrated Neighbourhood (INT) footprint.
June will act as a pilot phase, with neighbourhoods invited to take part in an INT PLT session. This will provide flexibility for local teams to shape their sessions around neighbourhood priorities, shared challenges, and opportunities for joint working. You will be hearing from your PCN CD about this in the coming weeks.
Practices may still choose to meet independently where appropriate. However, adopting an INT approach is intended to strengthen collaboration across neighbourhood partners and support more coordinated engagement at a system level. Please do let your PCN CDs know that you have something else arranged as they are working together to plan the afternoon.
We recognise that this represents a change to established ways of working, and we appreciate the flexibility and continued support from practices as we work together to develop and refine Integrated Neighbourhood Teams in a way that reflects local needs and adds value for patients, staff, and partners.
Future PLT Sessions (2026–2027)
Commissioners have agreed to support INT development time with practice closure for the 2026–2027 period.
The confirmed PLT dates are in October 2026, January 2027 and March 2027. View upcoming PLTs for further information.
These sessions will now support Integrated Neighbourhood Team (INT) working. For further details, view the upcoming PLT dates section below.
All-Practice (Borough-Level) PLTs
All-Practice PLT sessions are also delivered four times per year and provide a borough-wide learning offer for both clinical and non-clinical staff working in Lambeth general practice. These sessions support shared learning, consistency of approach and collaborative working across practices and PCNs/INTs.
Self-Choice PLTs
Self-Choice PLT sessions are also delivered four times per year and are designed to support whole-team development at network level, aligned to local population need and system priorities.
For further information, practices should contact their PCN Manager. Where appropriate, the Lambeth Together Training and Development Hub CIC (LTTDH CIC) can support coordination by facilitating contact with relevant PCN clinical and managerial leads. Please email: lttdh@selondonics.nhs.uk
To support effective planning, assurance and coordination of PCN and/or INT-level PLT delivery, practices are requested to complete the PCN PLT Information Gathering Form.
Providers wishing to coordinate or contribute to the delivery of borough-level PLT sessions are invited to complete the relevant Expression of Interest (EOI) form:
Practices are also encouraged to submit suggestions for future PLT topics to ensure sessions remain responsive to local need and system priorities:
PCN PLT Planning, Assurance and Feedback
LTTDH CIC works with Practices to provide assurance to South East London ICB Commissioners regarding the quality, impact and value for money of PLT delivery.
To support commissioning oversight, avoid duplication of learning topics and ensure that ICB investment is delivering benefit across whole Integrated Neighbourhood Teams (INTs), practices are asked to submit planning information in advance of each INT PLT session and feedback following delivery.
This information supports evaluation, continuous improvement and future commissioning decisions.
