First Contact Practitioner in Lambeth

First Contact Practitioner (FCP) Physiotherapy – Employment & Support Overview

The PCNs in Lambeth operate with a range of employment models for their First Contact Practitioner (FCP) physiotherapists. These include employment through NHS Trusts, private providers, or direct employment by the PCNs.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD), Peer Support and Supervision

  • Where FCPs are employed by a third party (such as an NHS Trust or private provider), CPD, peer support, and clinical supervision are usually provided by that employing organisation.
  • FCPs directly employed by a PCN should receive supervision and support from their employer. Supervision should align with NHS England guidance for Primary Care Network multidisciplinary teams: Supervision Guidance – https://www.england.nhs.uk/long-read/supervision-guidance-for-primary-care-network-multidisciplinary-teams/
  • All FCPs should be allocated protected CPD time and have access to appropriate peer support networks.

Training and Education

A fully funded training and education programme for FCP physiotherapists is available through Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). FCPs may apply directly to these programmes.

Local Support within South East London (SEL)

  • A South East London FCP Forum runs three times a year, open to all FCPs.
  • FCP Leads are also available through the SEL Workforce Development Hub (SELWDH) for queries or additional support.
  • Explore FCP roles and information from the SELWDH website
